This year Bloomingdale Middle and High School started a FIRST Robotics team. FIRST stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.” Our team name is CARDINAL.EXE and our team number is TEAM 6589. The team was made up of 10 high school students who spent six weeks building a robot to compete in two competitions. At the Lakeview competition in Battle Creek on March 2nd-4th, the team finished 14th out of 40 teams. They took home the Highest Rookie Seed Award (the highest placing rookie team at the competition) and the Rookie All Star Award (the best rookie team at the competition). At the Gull Lake competition on March 16th-18th the team battled through numerous problems with the robot. The students never gave up and problem solved every step of the way. They took home the Rookie Inspiration Award (outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering). Out of 451 high school teams competing this year the top 160 will qualify for State. As of right now, the team is ranked 83rd in the state with three more weeks of other schools competing. Even if we do not qualify to compete with our robot at State, we will interview with the FIRST judges along with twenty-two other rookie teams for a chance to be named the Top Rookie team in the state for 2017.
