This has certainly been a year of changes, and the Bloomingdale Alternative Academy is no stranger to change. This school year we have seen enrollment double, we have already surpassed the number of credits earned by last year’s students, and our largest graduating group has just crossed the stage! The graduates who were recognized at the Board Meeting on March 27 include: Rosa Delgado, Catrina Smith, Rose Stanbro, David Mandujano, and Saul Gonzalez.
Each of these students had their own set of circumstances that led them to joining the BAA, ranging from poor attendance, to family issues, health issues or an overall desire to work in an online program. In each graduate’s case, they came in and worked hard in the program. They were honest with themselves about how they were going to do the necessary work and complete the graduation requirements, and in the end, all were able to feel the confidence that comes with finishing what you’ve started.
“This diploma will help me improve myself by going to college and becoming what I really want to be, which is a nurse.” says Rose Stanbro. “Finishing in the BAA has made me even more proud of myself than I’ve ever been in my entire life.”
“The students who work in my classroom, and in this program, all have different situations they deal with. What we offer in the BAA is a supportive structure along with options the student may utilize to accommodate their individual needs” comments Trish Wayner, classroom teacher for the BAA.
With the school year coming to an end, it becomes time to consider plans for the upcoming school year. If you are a parent of, or are a student who could benefit from an alternative to your current plan, please think about giving us a call to schedule an appointment.
