Bloomingdale Elementary is pleased to introduce several new staff members for the 2017-2018 school year. Ms. Carrie Brown will be our new kindergarten teacher. Ms. Brown graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She has worked as a long-term substitute in both kindergarten and second grade. Ms. Brown is passionate and confident, and has a niche of working with other students.
Mrs. Zenia Gutierrez will be joining our third grade team. Mrs. Gutierrez is a graduate from Bloomingdale Public Schools. She also graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts and Education Degree with a Spanish major and Geography minor. Later, she received her elementary endorsement from Grand Valley State University. She has worked as a middle/high school Spanish teacher and most recently in a second grade classroom. Mrs. Gutierrez has a warm personality, is extremely patient and organized, and brings a passion for teaching in her hometown.
Mr. William Griffey will be our new physical education teacher serving both the elementary and the middle school buildings. Mr. Griffey graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Communications. He has experience as a PE teacher and also has experience coaching at the collegiate level and being a personal trainer. He is friendly, articulate, and excited about creating healthy environments for students.
Kristin DeVries is a new Bloomingdale ELA Special Education teacher. She graduated from Western Michigan University in 2015, with endorsements in Learning Disabilities, Emotional Impairments, and Language Arts. She has previously taught 5th grade at Verona Elementary in Battle Creek. She grew up in Horton, Michigan. In her free time she enjoys going to the beach, camping, working out, cooking and spending time with her family. Kristin loves teaching and is excited to contribute to the ongoing success of Bloomingdale and the surrounding community.
