Text Box: March’s Theme is Honesty and Trust
Without a doubt, telling the truth can be one of the hardest things for a child to do in every situation. Many children believe that no one can tell they are lying, and who is it going to hurt anyway? During the month of March we will be discussing honesty and trust in our weekly lessons.

The various honesty activities I have planned will help the students learn the difference between the truth and a lie, and how we can avoid the trouble that comes with a lie...by telling the truth, of course! More specifically, I will discuss the following issues with the students: lying to avoid punishment for something done wrong, failing to speak up and tell the truth about what really happened, and telling lies to cover lies.

We will also discuss how honesty plays a huge part in whether or not people will trust you. Many kids do not see the connection between honesty and trust, and they do not realize how fragile and valuable trust is. It is hard for these students to understand why teachers and parents are so disappointed when their student (child) has lied to them. Once these students understand how honesty builds trust, they will likely work hard to strengthen that trust.
Remember, anytime you tell someone a lie it is like looking them in the eye and telling them, “You are stupid, and I can trick you!”
