Bloomingdale Schools was awarded a grant from the State of Michigan for $250,000 to improve teaching and learning through the use of computers and related technology.

Key components of the grant include:

  • Purchase PowerPoint software for each computer
  • Purchase Encarta Encyclopedia for each computer
  • Train teachers in using PowerPoint for presentations
  • Teach students to do the following:

-Do research using CD-ROM  (Encarta is the main example)

            -Do research on the Internet

-Present their findings using publishing software

-Present their findings using PowerPoint presentations

  • Present examples of student PowerPoint presentations on the Internet
  • Provide computer projectors for each  building

Progress

Most of the goals for the year have been accomplished. The equipment has been purchased and training sessions were held. We were not able to have as in-depth training in the classroom as we had hoped due to limitations of time and training personnel.   However, a large number of teachers participated in after-school sessions to receive training in Encarta, Internet and PowerPoint.  Many innovative uses of PowerPoint presentations developed over the course of the year.
