Spyware

Spyware continues to be a problem throughout the district. Microsoft has now provided an excellent anti-spyware program that will run on Windows XP computers. We have had very good success in cleaning out infected computers. The result has been computers that run more quickly and smoothly.  You will find the program on the S drive under virus info. The program is called: “Microsoft Antispyware Install”.  Please copy it from its location on the S drive to your desktop or your C drive before running it.

Detailed instructions for using it on our computers is given in an online Technology Update which you can find by clicking on the technology icon on the Bdalecards website. Then click on Important Information. Then click on Microsoft Antispyware Program.

If your computer is running very slowly or if the Internet is sporadic spyware is likely to be the cause. If you call one of us to fix your computer, our first question is going to be if you have run this program to check for spyware.

You should run this program every other week or so.

This is for XP computers only.

For Windows 98 and 95 computers, continue to use “Spybot” and “Adaware”, both of which are in the virus info folder on the S. drive.

Controlling pictures in Word

Some of you have wondered how to manipulate pictures in Word. The problem seems to be that you insert a picture, either a clipart or a photograph, but you don’t seem to be able to move it where you want it on the page.

Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Insert the picture.
  2. Right click on the picture
  3. Click on Format Picture
  4. Click Layout
  5. Click Tight (I think “Square” will work as well.)
  6. Click OK

You should not be able to move the curser toward the corner of the picture where you will get a set of double arrows in the shape of a + sign. Click and hold your mouse button and you should be able to drag the picture anywhere you want it. The text on the page should flow to one side or the other of the picture.
